What is Moishe House Silver Spring?

Moishe House Silver Spring is one of a network of more than 25 do-it-yourself community centers run by & run for Jews in their 20’s across the world. The residents of MHSS receive a monthly budget from The Moishe Foundation and the Center for Leadership Initiatives to organize any kind of social, religious, cultural, or intellectual program that you want in your Jewish life.

Since launching in June 2007, MHSS has hosted programming and organized outings to an incredibly varied number of events, including: movie nights * Shabbat dinners * hikes * karaoke * Jewish text study * holiday meals * house parties * meditation * talks by social justice activists * open mic nights * Montgomery County Fair * beach trip * bbq’s * Shavuot all-night learning * sushi making * beer brewing * baal shem tov meal * inter-faith learning * cherry blossom festival * and more ...

The Moishe House project in general, and MHSS in particular, is not affiliated with any specific religious or political ideology within the Jewish community. We pride ourselves on being welcoming to Jews and friends-of-Jews of diverse practices and identities.

Where is Moishe House Silver Spring?

Our address is 639 Mississippi Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20910. We are right off the corner of Sligo Avenue on the east side of downtown Silver Spring, a 15-minute walk from the Silver Spring Metro station (five stops from downtown DC on the Red Line). And if walking isn’t your thing, the #16 Ride-On bus from S.S. Metro stops at the corner of Sligo & Mississippi.
